School Districts and The Pledge of Allegiance - What Is Required In South Dakota?

Does a school district have to provide students the opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance?

Yes. A school district must provide students the opportunity to salute the United States and the flag each day by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Is a student required to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance?

No. A student does not have to participate in Pledge of Allegiance.  However, a student who does not participate must maintain a respectful silence during the salute.
