A proposed statewide ban on texting while driving was rejected by the House Judiciary Commitee on Wednesday by an 8-5 vote.
Members of the House Judiciary Committee distributed studies showing that states with texting bans saw no decrease in accident rates after passing their laws, and argued the evidence was not compelling that a ban in South Dakota would be effective.
