What is a statute of limitations in South Dakota?

A statute of limitations is a legal guideline that limits the time a person has to file a claim in South Dakota – such as for a car accident or business dispute – seeking damages from a defendant.  Statutes of limitation are one of the oldest legal guidelines, and we continue to use it today to keep our state's court system running smoothly
