Charles “Chaz” Huff leads South Dakota DUI Counsel™ and serves as a key member of the Family Law Practice Group. Chaz has practiced criminal and family law for over twenty years. An accomplished trial lawyer, Chaz has represented individuals in every type of criminal law and family law case. His varied experience in multiple jurisdictions ranging from Downtown Chicago to rural Wisconsin to South Dakota has brought him in contact with people from different cultures and all walks of life. Consequently, he prides himself on being able to work with almost anyone on any problem.
Born and raised on Chicago’s North Side, Chaz got into the law early at the age of fifteen. His friend and mentor, Frederick F. Cohn, was a prominent defense attorney who took him under his wing and showed him the ropes of Chicago’s legal system. He studied history (pre-law) at Illinois Wesleyan University, as well as Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, and King’s College in London, England. Chaz earned his law degree from The John Marshall Law School. After law school, he worked for Attorney Cohn and Borovsky & Ehrlich, a firm then dedicated to representing members of Chicago’s Plumber’s Union and Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union. Chaz also served as a partner for several years at Mayer & Huff, S.C. in Menomonie, Wisconsin. He holds legal licenses in Wisconsin and South Dakota (pending).
Chaz and his wife, Katie, have two teenage girls. They are all involved in the arts in one form or another. He is a true crime writer currently working on a book that debunks myths surrounding the John Wayne Gacy case. He loves blues and jazz and is known for his raspy singing voice. A film buff, Chaz appreciates the art form from silent films to modern Hollywood. His favorite baseball team is the Chicago Cubs and favorite card game is Gin Rummy, although he loves watching poker tournaments.
