South Dakota state troopers responded to three separate car accidents in South Dakota that killed a total of three people. The cause is reported to be icy roads, freezing drizzle, and poor weather conditions.
All three car accidents occurred on Interstate 29 between Elk Point and Beresford.
The first of the victims was 27-year-old Angela Snoozy. According to reports, she apparently lost control of her vehicle, swerved into another lane, and slammed into a garbage truck. She was not wearing her seat belt at the time and was ejected from the car. The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
Not too much further down the road, 38-year-old Tonya Anderson of Akron, Iowa lost her life. South Dakota state patrol officers reported that she was driving a pick-up truck when she suddenly lost control of her vehicle, entered the median, and rolled over. She was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision and was thrown from her truck.
The third accident occurred near Vermillion, South Dakota. There are fewer details available on this case, but low visibility and icy road conditions are expected to have played a role in the cause of the crash. Authorities say that investigations are still underway.
