Chief Justice Gilbertson: State Should Examine Elder Abuse

Posted on Jan 15, 2015

South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson has proposed evaluating the financial abuse of the elderly in South Dakota.

Gilbertson in his Wednesday State of the Judiciary speech to lawmakers discussed proposals he says are making a difference in South Dakota. Those include a program to attract attorneys to rural areas and an overhaul of the state's criminal justice system that lawmakers approved in 2013. Gilbertson says those changes have kept offenders out of prison and has saved the state money.
