Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2013 - Five Tips for Keeping Your Passenger Safe on Your Motorcycle

With warm weather and the 2013 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaching, there are several motorcycle safety tips which are important to remember to avoid accidents and enjoy your ride this summer.  When riding with a passenger on your motorcycle, here are five tips to take in order to ensure the safety of both yourself and your passenger.

Tip #1: Check your owner's manual for your motorcycle to determine the amount of tire pressure and suspension you may need to adjust because of the increased weight caused by your passenger.

Tip #2: Remember to keep in mind the more weight you have on your motorcycle, the longer it may take to brake.

Tip #3: Passengers should wear a helmet, protective eyewear, and visible clothing.

Tip #4: Instruct passengers to hold firmly against you or the motorcycle's handholds. This helps prevent any potential injuries from the passenger losing hold while on the motorcycle.

Tip #5: Tell passengers where parts are located on the motorcycle which may injure them if they are touched, such as the muffler or header pipes. This helps prevent passengers from experiencing burns or melting shoes or clothing.
