South Dakota Department of Agriculture Releases Agricultural Economic Impact Study

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture has released new figures outlining the economic impact of farms and ranches across South Dakota. Of particular note, in 2012, the total production agriculture and ag-related industries accounted for $25.6 billion, or more than 30 percent of South Dakota’s total output.

It’s no surprise that South Dakota’s leading industry is agriculture, although it might be surprising just how large of an impact every farmer and rancher has across the state. Reports like these are especially helpful to get a good sense of the real scale of the ag economy across South Dakota.
